Hooking - a direct technique training method used in warm up of the shoulders and to practice entering and avoiding clinch with a partner.
The method is as follows:
-You and your partner standing extends thr right arm under the others left arm pit,
With your left arm bent back as if you were to commence a free style swimming motion.
- Both you and your partner motion this process, extending and hooking the arms back and forward building speed.
You may practice passing the oppoents arms or moving into arm locking techniques.
Palming (Sensitivity) – drill between two with hands palmed together, practicing movement.
This is a standing drill where you and your training partner place palms together, maintain posture move alternating steps to feel the weakness in the others footwork.
6-step Throwing – drill between two practicing throwing techniques, utilising methods of off balancing in a fast movement reflecting a dance.
When you and your opponent have reached a satifactory level in executing throwing techniques, you must build good dynamic practice. Take hold of your opponent in a basic grip. Move your opponent in a six step motion executing a throwing technique each time. These six step or movements do not need to be in order.
Six Steps: left, right, back, forward, turning clockwise and anti clockwise.
Each time you throw your partner, make sure they get to their feet as quick as possible to maintain the flow of the drill.
Leapfrog – drill between two, to strengthen and warm-up, for throwing technique.
Leapfrog drill assists with muscle development and fine motor control for throwing techniques. It develops fast twitch muscles in the legs and arms as they explore from a bent position, i.e. jumping over and then pulling through the legs.
Fitting In - Using two of the three principles of throwing: off balancing and body movement, you practice the entry and biomechanics of the technique repetively. See
Uchi Komi for details.
Bobbing / Squat – cardio, mental agility and throwing drill, creating movement for off balancing and throwing. These two methods are used in combination with Fitting in (
uchi komi). To develop power in executing throwing techniques.
Pounce On – rotational randori (stand up or grappling)
This fatigues the practitioner by having fresh opponents to spar. Pushing the practitioner to develop better technique in stead of just using strength in throwing. This is a good drill for preparing someone for competition.
On The Move – Uchi komi on the move practicing timing and
footwork. Starting at one end of your training area, both you and your training partner move along aline towards the other end. You will practice your fitting in as the partner continually walks to the other end. Just before you reach the other end of the training hall, you execute a throwing techniuqe. Make sure you use the same technique throughout the whole drill. You may take turns with your partner practicing this drill for a set time limit of lengths of the hall.
3-Step Fitting In – cardio drill for throwing, i.e. 5 Uchi komi – throw; rotate tag, push-ups and sit-ups.
You pair off the class and place them into a rows. One of the partnership will be at the end of the hall and the other at the other end.
Drill:
- Start is called, you run to the other end of the hall to your partner and execute 5 uchi komi and then throw him or her,
- Then run to the other end and tag the mat and then return to execute another 5 uchi komi and throw,
- Then run to the other end to do 5 push ups and then return to your parnter and execute 5 uchi komi and throw,
- Again run to the other end of the mat and now do 5 sit ups and then finally return to excute 5 uchi komi and throw.
Your training partner now will complete the same drill. You and your partner may complete say three cycles of the drill and a challenge against other classmates. While you are running and completing different exercises at the other end of the mat, have your partner complete 5 star jump until you you return each time.
This drill develops overall fitness and power for throwing techniques.
Mummy Throwing - Repetition-throwing class rotates through while one executes technique.
