Car Defence

Introduction

This is a list of strategies and principles for defence, against potential attackers in or around your vehicle.
Car Defence - Aussie Jujitsu

Strategy 1

When there is a threat from a passenger that had entered your vehicle, either by - Hijacking, - A hidden passenger in the vehicle, or - A threat from a known passenger.

Technique
Stop your car beside a wall, or another vehicle close enough to stop the passenger from being able to exist with speed to take chase. This will increase your reaction time for escape; remember to take the keys before vacating the vehicle.

Strategy 2

When there has been an escalation of aggression from the passenger.
a) Passenger is beside you in the front and they present a weapon like a knife or a gun. Technique – block knife and pin to their leg / middle console or dash. Then introduce their head to the dash. You may continue with a wrist locking technique.
b) The passenger is seated behind you with a knife to your neck. Technique – Apply brake to create distance between the blade and your neck, and then disarm by applying a wrist locking technique.

Strategy 3

When you have been attacked out side of your vehicle or in between vehicles in a car park.

Technique
Use the same strategies from wall and ground defence to counter the attack. The bonnet can act as a base to assist you in creating a sliding motion to counter the attackers advancers and to off balance them. When being pushed on pinned to side of the vehicle, lean on your shoulder side on to reduce the potential for further assaults from the attacker. Being side on will reduce the amount of target that can be injured to offer you additional room for movement.

Strategy 4

When someone aggressive has commenced a threat or assault while you are seated in your vehicle and they are outside of the vehicle.

Technique
a. Drive off
b. Don’t get out
c. If grabbing / punching through the window, pull them into the window frame. d. Don’t get out if they are too close (in case of the door being used to pin or crash you)

Safety Tips

a) Unsure about the passenger – have the passenger seated beside you provides you with the best observation point, followed by having the passenger seated diagonal behind you, so you are able to use your center mirror to check their behaviour.

b) When driving your vehicle – lock doors, use mirrors checks, and know where you’re going, if not stop in areas of safety. Be sure you have enough fuel and someone else knows your travel plans (they also know your regular journey path) and do not pick hitchhikers.

c) Walking to your vehicle (especially at night) –
o Have keys in hand,
o Check before entry
o Park vehicle in a well lite area,

d) Park vehicle for quick get away – this is when the location or person you’re visiting is a potential threat or you do not know the local area. Have the vehicle positioned so you are able to safety evacuate from a location i.e. park car in a forward direction clear from obstacles.

e) Vehicle driving towards you – wait and dive roll out of its path

f) Attacked while loading or unloading the vehicle
o Lean off the vehicle to generate power for the kick, and
o Place items in a separate area from where you’re sitting; be out of the vehicle when getting items.

g) Getting in / out of car –
o Slide and turn (for out), turn and slide (for in),
o If you have been caught halfway out of your vehicle it is better to get back in if possible. If the threat is too great be sure to use the vehicle as a base and push off assisting you in clearing the door area.
