CONSIDERATIONS WHEN ATTACKING YOU’RE OPPONENT - BACK OR BELLY?
When your opponent is on their back they have the ability to use weapons such as strikes and kicks, but not the ability to have the speed in moving. When they are positioned on their belly they have the ability to raise to the feet and are limited to only kicking.
If you know that your opponent has a high standard of skill on the ground it is better to attack them when they are about to rise to their feet. If the opponent is still lying on their back, is better to keep them there, ensuring you do not get drawn into their defence. Stay out of their range and wear them out with kicks to the legs. Other options for training or contest are using such techniques such as stepping onto the leg or using smothering methods.
